CM StormGiant58, thank you for the information. You are lucky to have a talented and strong dad, he must be at least a strong master. To get to my level was a lot hard word and still trying for master. I know how to qualify for national master (2200 USCF) but what is require to become a FIDE master. My current rating is USCF 2011 and my highest was USCF 2110.

CM StromGiant58 how long did it take you to become master level?

yureesystem

Returnofxchesser, I am not sure what is your goals in chess, you did not state them. What is your current USCF rating and what is your goals; do you what to become a expert or master? I make some comments on your game with WGM player.

I would have to agree. A d4 player would know the Slav, Nimzo, QGA, Dutch, etc.

Hello, returnofxpchesser, I have been watching the chat and many things have bothered me. First of all I am 11 years old and am 1800. Do you think I need a 2400 coach? No I study with Chris Mabe who is an IM. He may be 2300, but the style of how he teaches really corresponds with mine. I think that you do not need a chess coach but chess books may as well serve the purpose. Order and study EVERYMAN chessbooks and learn from them. Analyze your games in the free Chessbase 12 or Fritz. This is how i made the jump from 1600 to 1800.

BTW I am 4 time State Champion in NC and my name is Ishaan Maitra

& what is your IQ? What shoes do you wear? What is your favourite colour?

Ok now I'm pretty sure returnofxpchesser is just a troll. Ignore him

I'm not sure troll is the correct word. Seems like more of a mostyly harmless attention seeker. Or perhaps this guy:

My goals in chess is to become a better player, obviously my rating is 1080 i was 1st a 800 but i shot up 200 points,

From a recent tournament. I only played in 2 tournaments so far. The next tournament i might go 2 is a 1400 reserve which if i win all my games ill gain another 200 points.

In which ill be a 1200 player.

But to become a better player to not have lessons from crap i just recieved, i mean the lesson was horrendous i did not learn anything she just taught me. All she did was tell me a couple of good moves and did not explain as to what moves i made was bad.

Returnofcookiemonster

May i ask how does he teach you?

Playing skill and teaching skill are distinct.  Just because someone is a GM or has a high rating does not necessarily mean that he/she would be a good coach/teacher.  Your coach should know more than you do, but that does not even necessarily mean that your coach must have a higher rating.  Notably, once you get to a certain level, your coach almost necessarily will have a lower rating.  (For example, who could possibly coach Carlsen given that he is higher rated than everyone else.)  At the highest levels, your coach is there more to help you with a training regiment, giving you advice on how to study, and perhaps teaching you about the psychology of the game.  For many GMS, their coaches likely can't beat them (at least not consistently), but nevertheless their coaches provide value.

Focusing too much on titles or ratings is a bad way to choose a coach.  It's more important that the coache communicate well and is good at evaluating your strengths/weaknesses, your playing style and your learning style.  If your coach can help you improve, it does not matter if your coach has a low rating.

you my friend is wrong i just recently had a lesson with this master player

which is a womens grandmaster.

HERE IS an example i played her, the lesson i had with her was very horrible, she missed to many things in the game and i had a chance. all she did in her lesson was just type on her computer and not showing me no critical points of the position at all.

this is the reason why i choose grandmaster coaches because they actually show your mistakes with in depth analysis, obvious the player rate 2100 did not know how to plan things out and just made bad moves.

in her lesson all she did was consume her time by not saying anything. even with the homework she gave me it was not in pgn format.

After revieweing this game, and your "ANALYSIS"

1. You obviously dont know the Catalan, but still criticize what you dont know

2. Your biggest weakness, is your own conceit/low self esteem.

I understand this will fall on deaf ears, but i hope at some point, you will take notice.

StormGiant58

yureesystem my dad does not have a title he almost never actually plays chess he is the type of coach that is for helping you devolop different things not to really teach you it...

For me right now he just helps me devolop my thinking skills not really teaching me knew techniques...
