Here is a blog of my general advice.

watch videos, dont blunder, see what your opponent can do before you move

1. Play slow time controls so you can think about your moves and do for example blunder checks

2. Review your games so you can learn from your errors

3. Train your tactic eye, board awareness etc with puzzles on a regular schedule, for example daily. Also do some puzzles before starting playing game(s) to turn your brain into chess mode.

4. Study games of the masters, preferably with commentary from those masters, and watch material like the YouTube speedruns by GM Naroditsky

Take lessons and read books. It is simple.

Books are expensive but if you can afford them, then yes.

A good book on endgames is especially important, because I havent found good sources on endgames online.
