I just don’t understand. 2100 to 1900 in 2 weeks.

I have lost 500 points in 9-10 days, so nothing unusual about it. I discovered, in my case, it was the type of game that was causing the issue, closed games vs open and an inability to deal with that type of game. Upon improving my positional knowledge and skills, wild swings like 500 points in a week or so, or 400 in a few days ceased. I rarely drop more than 150 points in a week w/o recovering now. So for me it was a type of game, that required a different approach than I was prepared for. Think of it as a ratings-floor issue, something is your skill set is lacking setting you up for periodic game-collapses.

In fairness, it’s a lot easier to lose that amount in bullet or blitz than it is in rapid

Hey guys. We’ve all tilted before. It happens. I’ve been there plenty. But I can’t think of anything I’m doing differently, yet over the course of January my rating has gone from an all-time peak of 2106 to currently 1990.
There are serious differences between players at 2100 and 2000, as there are with any rating gap, and yet I can’t seem to get any wins going at present.
nothing in my life has changed recently - my job is the same, my sleep schedule is the same, there’s nothing externally to explain it. I’m not trying to play a different opening I don’t understand, or approaching the game in any different way that I can see. I’m making a fair few stupid mistakes, but mostly I just seem to be getting consistently outplayed nearly every game of late. I’ve played a couple of decent ones, so clearly I haven’t been hit in the head and forgotten how to play, but by and large i just can’t stop losing. If anyone has any suggestions at all im open to them.

cool name

Thank you

update: no improvement at rapid yet, hopefully it comes soon. In a bizarre twist I played a few games of blitz and am now at an all time blitz peak of 1850. In forums past, people have often touted this level of blitz as harder than 2000 rapid: make it make sense!!

My spirits are slightly paradoxically raised - I’ve woken up to day with a horribly sore throat and feeling generally rotten: may have been getting poorly recently without realising
