Hi everyone!

I just played my first game on Chess.com and I know I made many mistakes. I haven't been playing very long but I really love playing and I want to get better.  Would anyone care to look at my game(s) and offer any tips?

Thanks!

Welcome to chess.com!

Usually you can get advice for your games here: https://www.chess.com/forum/category/game-analysis

Ok.

I'm not really sure why you're 977 but good game!

Hi and welcome. Nice game. It appears you really like to push forward and attack looking to pick up material. Great fork from 19. Ne6!

Might want to mull over:

Chess games are mostly lost rather than won. In your win, you obviously got help from opponent via his bad moves. But you did take advantage of them. So if you can minimize your bad moves and be really alert to opponents mistakes, you will not lose much and win plenty.

As pawns are pushed, they create weaknesses. Both behind them from squares that can't be defended by pawns and holes they leave. A hole like the one you took advantage of with the knight fork. So when pushing pawns consider what's left behind.

Might also want to get used to assessing which side is better at certain points in the game. Some basic criteria is material, king safety, mobility. There's more criteria that you'll consider as you improve and improve. Based on the basic criteria, who do you think is better at 17...exd6?

Don't underestimate castling.

Great first game. Hope you have lots more wins!

Quite a decent game at your level. Three Black pieces combined together chase around the White king in vain after move 31. Your opponent must have left devastated after nothing came out of it.

I wonder why Black opted to recapture the d6 White pawn on move 12 with 12...Qxg6, leaving Black with doubled c-pawns and tripled e-pawns when a recapture with 12...cxd6 or 12...exd6 gives Black a chance to mend his/her pawn structure.

At your current level (pretty lady), you MUST always play at the edge of defeat.  You must play tactically and forget your king.   Once you reach above 1100, try and play much more defensively.

Btw, based on your play style, I would think you can reach a solid 1150 in weeks happy.png

All my love to you, sister.

Leon and Kelly are sisters?  What's the odds of that?  I would never have guessed that - they look nothing alike.  One has glasses and the other...does not.  But back to the chess.  Continue.

haha, girls call each other sisters ALL the time happy.png

This wasn't the first game I have ever played. This is the first game I have played on Chess.com. I have been playing for almost five months. Thanks everyone for your kind words and instructions. I am trying to learn how to formulate a game plan. I open with lines I have memorized but don't understand and during the middlegame all of my moves are based on intuition. My only game plan at this point is to wait for my opponent to blunder and hope that I spot it in order to capitalize. Thanks again everyone!

Thank you both!
