I suck at chess, so what?

Chess being considered the ' game of life' , I thought I'd have a crack at playing to measure how much it correlates to how I play at this game called life. I suck, plain and simple, I just don't have that killer instinct to win at either. So what, I still want to play. I don't learn tactics, I want to learn from mistakes I make as I go along. I'm the same in life, yes it makes it painful but I reckon I learn more than people using cheats. So if you come across me, I'm learning and doing it the hard way, by stuffing up and then learning. I'm happy to win or lose because, that's life.

Well, if you made this post, you care quite a bit.

The truth is, it doesn't really matter, but to you it does.

LM_player
I just play chess when I have nothing better to do. It's fun.
wandaba
Cherub, yes how clever you are! You can care, and I do, but that doesn't mean it matter and it seems to be a weakness to do so, it makes one easy to manipulate by sociopaths, and life, and chess is full of such people. I just won a game and it feels no better or worse than losing. And I didn't use tactics I just played. My brother was great at chess, he was also a criminal. I suck at chess but I'm an honest person and I get no satisfaction from seeing people lose or beating them with cutthroat tactics. Not in chess and not in life. I guess I'm in a quandary and turned to chess to see if it had any answers for me it being the game of geniuses apparently. So I'm learning about myself and chess as I go along. Just like life, it's not about winning because any cheat can win, it's about the journey and what you discover to be true along the way to live with integrity, not just to win. End of long winded rant. ( disclaimer: I'm not saying all chess geniuses are criminals, my son is a great player and is pure as the driven snow lol)

Hari, cheers, it is fun when you play your own game instead of analysing the crap out of the board. Sometimes I deliberately make a shit move because it's damn tiring anticipating what your opponent does all the time. You just have to do your own thing, screw tactics. I like to live with a bit of spontaneity, it is the spice of life although it can bite you in the bum sometimes. My son is a great chess player but hates playing now. I think that's a good sign lol.

Just enjoy the game (or don't enjoy it) and stop making unfounded generalizations.

RoseFogelman

I have to go to bed now or I would play you cause I suck too!  You are welcome to friend me and we can play a really bad game together.

wandaba
Cherub, they are not unfounded it's call life experience. And I can read what I want to in it. Maybe it's your perspective which is limited and needs broadening.
wandaba
Rose will do! Thanks :)

You make an interesting comment in your initial post, which sounds stupid, and even more stupid when you compare it with life:

"I don't learn tactics, I want to learn from mistakes I make as I go along".

You are never gonna learn chess like that, because you dont know about mistakes, you will never recognize a positional mistake, or even a tactical one, even if sits in your face. Same goes for life.

Worst part is you know it lol.

Comfort zone much? And why do you mention cheats so much? Probably no one that beat you used an engine.

I think I've done my dash with chess. I can't delete this thread apparently so make what you will of it. I'm out.
Cherub_Enjel

You gave one example of a chess player who was a criminal, and then your son, who you call "pure as snow".

Then you proceed to claim that many chess players (supposedly compared to those in other subjects) are cheaters/manipulators.

A lot of life experience can be pretty bad - in the narrow field of chess, it's why plenty of adults can't improve, no matter how hard they try. Judging by your logic/lack of it, as well as your inability to make an argument, it's probably for you in general life.

Cherub_Enjel

And with your life experience, don't miss the "x" button which says "delete".

Lol, I just saw your rating, now I understand why the trauma. If you enjoy playing chess and want to get better, open a damn book, if humanity thought like you we would still live in caves.

And chess has nothing to do with intelligence, nor your value value, but all people in this site seem to believe that, and probably that is the only reason why they are here, because "chess is for smartpeople".

If you enjoy chess, and dont want to get better, then keep what you are doing, at the end of the day when you die you are not gonna remember anything and no one will care about what you did or what you didnt, so just be happy!

I'm pretty sure he's a sandbagger. I've had my experience with that personally.

Yeah, you probably need to be 5 years or less to get a 200 rating.

Even then, he sounds like a nutjob, because chess is based on tactics, and his vibe of "I want to be original, and experiment" is kind of retarded, because if he wanted to be original and use his own stuff, he should not be using the internet in the first place. Humanity relies on colective knowledge, and acting like the OP shows a lack of brain cells, or mental illness.

If he has a son, which I dont think he has, I feel sorry for him lol.

captnding123

That sucks!!!!!!!!!!

captnding123

Of course you can learn chess and as in life by making mistakes and don't repeat them.

captnding123

Of course chess is so much easier and mundane than life.
