I supp0rt your allegations  Mrs Hou Yifan ,    the pairings were arranged  .

Not only it was you,  these pairings are more rigged than the borislav ivanov´s games .

father and daughter playing each other (cramling) ,  husband and wife same in the last round to get a prize if whe woman wins  ,  haha what is this joke ,  bulgarian top players each other too,  ok , i got it,  congrulations to the gibraltar organizati0n you are in the international press , that it was your aim from the beginning .

Anyway,  Hou and family,  i am a fantastic lawyer ,   no expenses,  so if you wish we can go at the world´s end like Jack  .

Father vs daughter, husband vs wife, Bulgarians playing each other, and Yifan paired against women every round.......but the organizers assure us that it was
THE COMPUTER'S FAULT.

Nothing to see here.

Hoe Yifan is on the way out

Ya know, in hindsight, I think she would have gotten more press buzz if she'd combined the thrown game with a wardrobe malfunction...

Throw in Justin Timberlake, and some backup dancers.

Nice thread. I support her, too.

I don't know that I agree with her accusation. But I support her right to forfeit a game to make a point. People who act like she owes something to the fans are self-involved. It's her career and her choice to make. The only person it wasn't fair to was every single player besides Lalith, because none of them got free points.

Yifan made great contributions to Opening theory.

Other IA's used the same tournament results and pairing software and came up with the same pairings.

Why is she so upset about playing other women?  It's not like she was disadvantaged.  If she wanted the women's prize money, it's better to play other women because if you win and your opponent loses (because you beat them) it's easier to get the prize.

Why would the organizers do such a thing?  Manipulating pairings can get people in trouble with FIDE and they have no incentive

Shhhh don't spoil their conspiracy

She's a spoiled brat and wants everything her way.  She's refusing to play the Women's World Championship because she thinks the knockout format is unfair, despite the fact that she would be the #1 seed with an 80+ point rating edge over the nearest competitor.  She wants to be put on a pedestal and thinks that competing against other women is beneath her

I heard a rumor that Hou Yifan was jealous of the other Chinese player Ju Wenjun who won the female tournament in Gibraltar and this was her way of attention seeking behavior to keep herself in the media.

You are jealous, not informed, disappointed and more over you are wrong.

@tubebender.

what should I deduce from a ungendered, racist pawn?

its low class to judge a person from his/her picture, nationality and gender.  and moreover, as anonymous as we all are... you might be entirely wrong about him.

Don't bother. He's just a grumpy old man.

Her actions were similar to a pro tennis player "tanking a match". She should be punished and/or fined. I am sure that she could have lodged a protest after the tournament and/or discreetly had another TD run the same program to save her public embarassment. She may not think so, but most Chess players I know think that she is acting like a "nut" and at best an immature brat. Had she won the event, would she have complained? Possibly. But I doubt it. We will never know. An additional thought: The "tanking" tennis player is not only disrespecting the game, he is also wasting the time and money that people paid to see a match regardless of corporate sponsorship. Why would Chess be different, ethically?

While I admit I dont know any of the details of this, only what I have read here, it seems to me she was punsished and/or fined. Both were self imposed. Her punishment was embarassing herself and probably limiting what future events she might be invited to. And her fine was the amount of money that she did not win (or will not win) because of her actions. Seems like a self correcting non problem to me. Besides, if there were any chess fans there who paid money to see people play, it's likely all three of them got to see something they have probably never seen before. Her antics certainly generate more interest than if she had  played 90 moves to a boring loss.
