I supposedly beat a verified GM, but he’s only 1800??

I don’t know the answer, but nice queen sac to checkmate the grandmaster.
I played a game yesterday against an opponent with a verified red GM banner next to their name, but I’m completely confused. He /she surely can’t be a GM if I beat them first of all as I’m only 1800 chess.com and lower with Fide. Second, I looked at their past games and they seem to be losing to much lower rated players, like 900 in one case.
Please can someone make it make sense? How do they have the verified GM title of they’re obviously not a GM? Fake account?
This has also happened with FMs from other countries, though I looked them up and believe these to be legit from what I can tell.
