I have 9 of them but don't want to sell any at this time. My favorite is one I bought in a department store back in the '80's.

but come on, this is a Chess Equipment Discussion Forum!  My suggestion: Go to a different discussion forum and read and post there.  It's like, free in total.

First of all, some of the best wood sets are made in India because they have the best carvers and very good wood.  Secondly, if you want a set made in a western country, then I would recommend a marble set from Italy.  That's what I have.  I bought it on the internet  There are onyx and marble chess sets made in Pakistan, so be sure to ask where the set is made.  Personally, I think the most important thing is that you like the board and the pieces.  The Knight is usually the first piece to examine and then the King, Queen, and Bishops.  If the pieces aren't carved nicely, it's not good to play because they look too much alike.  I can't remember if I bought my set from chessusa.com, chesscentral.com or thechesshouse.com.  They all have good sets and the piececs vary.  Houseofstauton.com is another good site as people have already posted, but if I recall, they don't sell marble or onyx.  Be sure to check eBay and Overstock.com.  Sometimes you can find good prices.  Get a 16" or 17" board.   Reputable online chess stores have customer service people who can answer questions and make recommendations.

Some guys must be traumatized, jealous and angry because Santa never gave them a chessboard so they come and troll the chess equipment forum angry at all the cool kids who buy themselves one nice chessboard or hundred. It's not their fault jealousy is so ugly.

I ordered this one cause it has the coordinates on the outside of the board for easy reference.  It was only $33 dollars.  It has a 16 inch board which is a good size to put by my computer.  https://www.amazon.com/Jowisz-Decorative-Folding-Chess-Board/dp/B000Z9CH7U/ref=sr_1_17?srs=12684406011&ie=UTF8&qid=1482859380&sr=8-17
