Hi, I want to create a course that has lets say 50 PGN files of material I think a player should go through to make it to say rating 2300 or 2500..

Can someone sue me for providing PGN files of positions?

so for instance, the positions of Imagination in Chess, if I put them on a pgn file can I get in trouble?

only the plain positions, no explanations, nothing.

I think they can but positions are not copyrighted, so I am not sure.

If the .pgn's are of games without anyone elses annotations, analysis, etc, then youre fine.

It is a little complicated. A single position of a historical game is Ok. Composed positions are problematic. A collection of positions from a book could also be problematic. For example, if I was to publish a file of positions from a book, that collection IS copyrightable.

Anybody can sue you for anything, that doesn’t mean they will be heard or even successful however.
