Well, in tennis, not in chess. 😂
A colleague from my tennis club invited the Swiss GM Noel Studer to play some balls. We ended playing a double and we had a lot of fun. Noel is a very nice guy and play a rather decent tennis (I am however better, as I am playing since 40 years).
He told me that he recently had training with a famous Indian coach (name?). He said that they spend hours and hours analysing a position without moving a single piece! He felt that he was rather stressed with this method, as they had to calculate rather long lines with different ramifications. At a certain point the coach took away the position and they had to continue analysing just with the position they had (or should have) in their mind. He said that they do this regularly in India with children, and this is why they get so incredible strong at a very early age.
I will once try this approach, although I know already that I will have huge problems with my poor visualisation.
I was trying something similar with my students (beginners), but now I realise that I can be more consequent with this approach.
