Well, if you use them both, why don't you tell us?
icc and chess.com
I tried ICC and didn't really like it. I took forever to find a live game for me but on Chess.com I find one almost instantly. And, just for clarification, I was only looking for blitz, 5/0. That was on my iPad. On my laptop I still couldn't find a game and I just didn't care for the clunky interface.
But that is just me and your mileage my vary.
I fine both of these app are great. but which one is really the best and why?
I'd tell you, but the mods would kick me out... ;)
I am not a very strong player by any means, so playing GMs and such on ICC holds no appeal. That said, I find chess.com to be far superior. First, the ICC interface is complex and unappealing (I was a member there for a couple of years), and finding a game was difficult. Chess.com has a beautiful interface, and when you want to find a live game, you just enter the parameters and the site finds you a game within your rating range almost immediately.
The videos, chess mentor, tactics trainer, online chess, etc. make this, for me, the best site. Combine it with chessgames.com, and you have an unbeatable combination.
Anyone who has spent significant time at both sites knows that ICC is better for playing chess. chess.com tries to offer a "walmart of chess" experience, in that they offer lots of things, but for the actual playing of chess games ICC is better especially for standard time control games.
They have the T4545 league which is real slow chess.
Multiple automated G60 tournaments with useful prizes such as free membership extensions.
chess.com's idea of a standard tournament is G15|10 when you get a "trophy" at the end.
ICC doesn't have the cheating problem chess.com has.
ICC isn't a haven for immature teenagers and trolls.
If you want to play chess on a site that is a combination of match.com and MySpace, play on chess.com. If you want good a "no-frills" mature chess experience, play on ICC.
ICC offers the BBS/IRC style interface that a lot of us grew up on and aren't offended by. :)
A membership combination of ICC + Chess Tempo is much better spent for playing/improving at chess than anything chess.com offers.
Wow, you come on chess.com to compare with other sites? Trolling much? SilentKnight5, why not remain silent? Also, for that retiree with nothing better else to do, is this what you are teaching your kids?

Wat?

Maybe you have been smoking too much weed.
I didn't come to chess.com to troll. I asked a simple question, just wanted to what people thought were on the two top chess apps. Thanks everyone!
now this conversation is dead but chess.com offers many levels quick ques into any time control and is probably better for beginner players.
The supposed upgrade to the Internet Chess Club is a total disaster. I was a member since 1995 but find it to be a huge step down from what it once was. All of the features that made it good were eliminated; time stamp (the clocks don't work well at all), the chat channels, being able to report suspected cheaters, being able to report *anything,* no more 10 second delay at the game's beginning, no more notification of when players are titled. It is abysmal. I've made numerous positive reviews of the old site, but I cannot recommend it at all anymore. ICC promoted the changes as if it were some kind of "revolution." In reality, it's a total bust. I much prefer chess.com.
The things that bug me about chess.com are: mandatory autoflag, no adding time, no takebacks in rated games (for mouse slips), auto claim of repitition and 50-move rule. ICC used to cover all those annoyances but now it offers nothing chess.com doesn’t already have. I played on both sites, but I think my ICC days are over.
They also reset all the ratings and changed how they combine different blitz speeds. I worked hard to get my 5 minute and rapid ratings up into the near expert range, then ICC 'rebooted' and I lost it all. Also lost all my archived games, which were of value to me. From A to Z, the ICC "revolution" was a total disaster.
