The man in the still is Ivor Novello; the women is June Tripp.  It's indeed a silent film called "The Lodger," directed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1927.

Did Lucy play chess ?

Oh Reb!

Of course Lucy played chess!

She was wise, funny, and full of life.

No doubt!

Lucy played chess!

However, She only played blitz/rapid chess!

She had ambition to be a dancer.

She couldn't be found sitting down for 5 hours of chess while she was feeling the dancing rythme.

Which is why she never made WGM.

The White "pawns" were "Earl Carroll Girls" who were employed at his threter/supper club. The Black "pawns" were identified only as "Latin Beauties."

The White Queen and King were Lt. P. B. Clagett, U.S.N.R.and Roseanne Murray. The Queen of Ceremonies, announcing the moves of the Live Chess game, was Linda Darnell (below).

The Black Queen and King were Barbara Hale and Bill Williams (below).

This thread was interesting. Thanks, Batgirl and others who posted their comments. Now, it seems that the thread is about to become troll bait. I'll untrack before it gets worse.
