If Capablanca played Carlsen for the world champion match, who would win?

Strip Carslen of engine prep and GM game data base analysis and give him the same resources as Capablanca and Capablanca will beat him so badly that Carlsen will look like a kid

and he will either quit chess or rise up just like Anand rose against him with a vengeance

Carlsen is the strongest chess player there ever was and Capablanca was the strongest player of his time.

OH, and you gys just wait...

Anand will beat Carlsen so badly, that Magnus will never play chess again.

Someone seems bitter over the last match.

The Cuban can give the Norsk 3 extra pawns and may still trump over him.

Carlsen would nowadays easily win against Capablanca! Also why are all people here saying that capablanca was a bigger genius than carlsen?! How can they know?

Strip Capablanca of his study of the endgame and experience playing world champions and Carlsen will whip him so bad he will leap into the Gulf and swim back to Cuba.

Strip both of them from half their brain and I will beat them.

Not sure what it proves, though.

who would win, napoleon or genghis khan, jesus or buddha, alan greenspan or ben bernanke?

I'd say Carlsen.

I would think that Capablanca would even have trouble reacting to Carlsen's first move, considering he's dead. :)

Not only that, but Carlsen has age on his side, so it's really a double-whammy.

If you're talking about the greatest talent of all time it's Bobby Fischer.  Nobody else ever beat 20 grandmasters in a row.  That's the gold standard.

Avatar of imcraig

Fine but nobody in history comes close to that streak.  Fischer does not get full credit for his chess skill because he was a nut.

The russians are our friends When Abe Lincoln needed help during the Civil War the Czar of Russia sent his Atlantic and Pacific fleets to be at the command of Lincoln shoud the British or French dare to flaunt Lincoln's naval blockade of the Seceeding South.  Both are overwhelmingly Christian nations who wwere put at each other's throats by the atheistic communists who took power in Russia after the Russian Revolution of 1913, aka the Bolsheviks.   Had the Czar, the Christian Czar, our natural ally remained in power. Russo-American relations would have been one of harmony.  The Russian are our brotehrs if you are an american Christian but the ones who riled things up so that two Christian nations point Nikes at each other twenty four hours a day are the problem.

If you look at the forums here, it looks like the opposite : Fischer is not seen as nuts because of his tremendous chess skills.

It's because Fischer was a chess hero, not a comic-book hero.

Comic-book heros are squeeky-clean and say only what you tell them to say.

Steinitz won 25 in a row, among them 10 games against Blackburne, who Chessmetrics ranked as #2 when losing 0-7 without draws in a match against Steinitz.

Apparently, I stand corrected!
