If chess players are so smart why they are not millionaires/billionaires?

I find greed and taking advantage of those in need, go a long way for many millionaires and billionaires. It is rather unintelligent to muddle about in such ways, in life, but it works for some, while it only gets worse for others.

Money comes from your elders or from what you do and often from both. Most chess players are thinkers, not doers.

Einstein was never a millionaire does that mean all his work is bogus?

Or how about Nikola Tesla?

Thinking like researching does not earn much money. Doing like manufacturing and marketting earns millions and as much as billions. GMs along with scientists and philosophers are very smart yet could not earn millions.

What a stupid question.you win the lottery, you have millions; but you are not smart because of that.

I am glad you said this. As an electrician, I wish I'd have thought of this point you make. Although, I doubt many either understand or care but, Tesla was contracted with Westinghouse Electric and on a path to become a billionaire through his royalties. However, JP Morgan urged George Westinghouse to try renegotiating Tesla's contract, for fear it would bankrupt Westinghouse and cause Morgan to lose money.

In the interest of science and love for his work, Tesla gladly rescinded his part of their original agreement, after being told that he wouldn't be able to continue his work with Westinghouse's funding, if he didn't.

@GogelyMogely all you guys post is not making sense with the poster's point of view.when we talk about relating smartness with millionaire or non-bogusness with millionaire, we appear to be swung around. So no words are going on specifically, the more we go on, the more we are screwing around.

Is Karpov listed in the Fortune calc's as a Billionaire ?....I don't know....but to make the international list my guess would be one'd have to be worth close to a billion+....

(GogelyMogely) Or how about Nikola Tesla?....I think Tesla > Edison....but then I went to my 1st Steampunk convention on the mainland awhile back and bought some hoodwinks !....then watched a Tesla Coil lite up the sky....awesome !!....Smile....Tesla had me right there.

(luisalcuadrado) What a stupid question.you win the lottery, you have millions; but you are not smart because of that....Smart enuf to play....You gotta be in it to win it !....Laughing....

Have you ever watched a game between two Top notch GMs? I did, I could not understand the logic behind most of the moves. I used to think these guys should be very smart.
But when I came to know about the networth of these guys I often wonder if these guys are so smart, why they are not millionaires/billionaires.
Whether the smartness of a chess player is limited to on-board only or beyond that?

They devote their time and work to developing chess skill rather than making money. I respect them for doing what they love rather than chasing money.

Wealth has a lot more to do with personal ambition to make money than with brains.

What took me aback was when they reported last week that the top 85 richest had more $ than the bottom 3,500,000,000 people....what's going on with that ?

If you read the article, his company claimed that thy had found a new reserve worth over a billion $.

This doesn't mean that Karpov is a billionaire, perhaps eventually he will become one. However, there are doubts as to if this claim was actually true, and the last article i read said that the government was inspecting to confirm the claim.

So i guess we wait and see.
