That is kind of the story of the the Elo journey in general. Better play as you play better!

Just gotta learn how to play against it. There's basically 3 or 4 moves you need to remember and it's the same every time, and by that point you are completely winning. There's a reason only beginners play it.
Even if you don't end up in this family fork variation, you fianchetto the Bishop, Castle and you're fine.
