Who cares about the great chess matches? The first chess related thing i would do with time travel is to travel far into the future where engines are of the past and 32 men tablebases are the future. I would like to troll some legendary old games like "you just missed a mate in 1000 fischer" or something like that.

If I could go back in time I would definitely go all the way back to the time before chess was invented and I would invent it with my own rules.But thats not what you asked :). I would watch Fischer vs Spasky.
