I always thought overprotecting a piece just meant having more defenders than attackers (e.g. if white opened 1. e4 e5 2. d4 Nf6 Nf3, he would be overprotecting his d pawn (but leaving his e pawn en prise). Is there a more subtle meaning I am missing?
