Fake vs true sounds like a misnomer. When people behave differently under different conditions, you're merely seeing different aspects of their self. Behaving selfishly is no more real or fake than behaving with empathy.
If you really want to get to know someone, give them anonymity...

there is a lot of talk on here about who is who, who used to be FrenchBasher, MDinnerspace, etc etc never mind those individuals, the point of this post is that if you want to see one's true self, let them think they have anonymity so they will behave as such. Just a thought.
