Have been playing chess with chess computer, and have no doubt whatso ever, that this computer makes illegal moves. For some time now have doubted some of the moves this computer makes....and as a result have taken paticular care in the computer and its moves............and yes yes yes.....in effect it .......CHEATS.Has anybody else come across this.

Ummm how?

show some examples.

The only thing I have realized is that the game doesn't end as a draw if we repeat a certain move more than three times. What kind of moves are you talking about? It could be "en passant" or "Castling". check the "chess rules & basics"

Which chess computer are you talking about?  I know that some dedicated chess machines will make illegal moves; even some of the more poorly written chess programs.

 Notations would work!

Try putting some fresh batteries in it. :)

Well, I know that on a number of occasions LittleChessPartner's rooks have spontaneously disappeared. Also, when playing on IE (as opposed to Firefox), his pieces will multiply. (I have an old version of IE though, so that might be just me.)

OK.......I play against little chess partner....on hard.

You make a move whereby your pawn will go PAST his pawn..so that he can not take it.....then he does take it and move on the space infront. This has happened several times....but u do question the board setting....thinking did he just cheat....but it always seems to happen when your in a challenging posistion.

Really weird......as if it has a mind of its own.

Evil_Homer

That just sounds like en passant?

LearnChess

Like what Evil Homer said, it's en passant.

Why in the name of all that is unholy, are you playing Little Chess Partner on hard, when you don't know the en passant rule?

Winning many?

deadpoetic

lol ive actuly seen someone go through the trouble of posting a youtube video claiming this exact thing.

but i remember when someone first used en passant rule against me, i also tripped out but my opponent explained it to me.

Slightly off-topic, but still on topic: Is it true that in quick chess on live chess that king takes king is allowed?

I've heard of the old OTB cheat where you sort of move you pawn so it covers say half of a2 and half a3, to be placed properly when and where needed. I guess this would be bullit chess, with husslers or something. Anyone see anything of this sort?

Yes, read about it in "How to Cheat at Chess" by W. Harston as a kid. Tried it on my friend in a blitz finish... goes like this... (in a pawn race)... P-KR4 and 3/4, he moves,  say "j'adoube" and adjust pawn to KR5, play pawn to KR6, at which point my friend said "CHRIST! that pawn is motoring!"... I won the game a couple of moves later when my new queen stopped his pawn from promoting. I admitted my trick afterwards and a good laugh was had by all. Only works with a few seconds left each though.

p.s. There are some funny stories of people castling with the rook off the next board!
