I'm cancelling

I just read in the FAQ on cheating that the use of books is allowed! So the whole discussion is redundant. They wrote that he topic "cheating" should only be dscussed there; it is what I will do. Thank you nevertheless guys.
What about those who leave the board and are allowed 3 minutes to return. Do away with freebies, they are either checking moves with a friend or another computer. Cheating just the same.

You have to take things as they are, if some people are using chess engines that's just the way it is. So you're playing some of your games against a computer basically. Perhaps when this happens we should be grateful that we're playing a stronger opponent who will give us more challenge for the buck. In any case, you're playing whatever is on the other end and there's nothing you can do about it.
I think you are getting a better handle on what's really going on as the thread is proceeding. To me this looks like this is being used as an outlet to express your own frustration with your own game.
2% with chess mentor says a lot if someone is wondering why they aren't improving enough, The training tools and videos is what we are buying here with the diamond membership. That's why I'm here, I'm brand new, I'm not looking to play anyone on here actually. A lot of people are here for the competition, but honestly, if you think that no one will be getting help then that's not realistic.
Anyone doing that obviously isn't very good though, and not someone we'd want to be playing if they were left to their own resources anyway.
I don't think you improve much just playing blitz games, chess is a thinking game really, I hate blitz myself and that's not why I like chess, I like the thinking part. Not everyone does but if someone is frustrated with the lack of improvement in their game, they need to ask themselves if they are putting the right amount of work into their game. It's fun to play but if you want to get better well not much happens by osmosis.
Playing blitz games over and over and expecting to get much better reminds me of Einstein's definition of insanity. This can matter when you're a beginner but really won't do much to get you to the higher skill levels.

I'm having a hard time psyching myself up to play/study anymore. I'm very disappointed in myself for not improving. You could say I enjoyed playing chess, but with the huge disappointment hanging over my shoulder I'm starting to think that it was all for naught. I work study, but it doesn't get me anywhere. I ask my bro, and he says I've improved, however my score doesn't reflect. Then I ask myself, are people out there really that good at blitz? And it makes me wonder if I'm even playing a human. It's like I've played and enjoyed chess up to a certain point, and then I have to force myself even to stomach the game anymore. I want to puke...
Have you considered trying OTB chess ? This is a much livelier and interesting experience than Internet chess, and there are almost no cheaters !
You're right, hicetnunc, but you forgot to mention the opponent who fails to bathe ... for weeks ... and your nose shuts down along with your brain, or the one who eats his Fritos during play and without cleaning his hands proceeds to wipe his greasy-grimies all over your nice wood pieces. Oh, and don't forget the player who rolls your captured piece 'round and 'round in a circle to break your concentration.
You could say this is a from of cheating, but if you're not willing to go this far just say it lacks character and a sportsman's sense of fair play. The good news is these schmucks are in the minority and are usually but not always lower rated players.

To many engine driven a-holes.
Who cares thay you're leaving?
But you should care about cheating, shouldn't you?

@Nekhemevich, my advice would be to play on chessfriends.com. They have very active cheat detectors and if caught your rating is diminished by about 400 points and you're publically announced as a cheater. It's a great deterrent :)

I don't like version three. The reason is the bugs. It looks great, but doesn't work all that great. I'm leaving...

@Derekjj: sure you have. And please tell me how this "chess.com employee" got those statistics? That would be fascinating to find out!
Never heard of the butterfly effect? Look it up sometime.

Hey, is that some sort of electronic pen that he can use to make moves RIGHT ON THE SCREEN of that chess computer? I really want one of those neat things!!!

I am so upset by players who disconnect five or more times per game. They are cheating and the best way to stop this is to dock their clocks twice the time they disconnect, added to the time they disconnect. I.E. One minute equals three minutes lost.

Sometimes people just have crappy internet connections. Don't blame them just because the internet service available to them isn't top quality.
