i had an opponent down to his King and 2 pawns with one move away from checkmate and the game ended on a draw. Could someone explain how this became a Draw by Stalemate?

It’s stalemate because your opponent’s king did not have any legal moves and wasn’t in check at the same time. His two pawns were fixed, so he couldn’t move them either. So it’s a draw
