Nobody could remember the solution. ![]()
John Lennon Lyrics
"Imagine"
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today... Aha-ah...
Nobody could remember the solution. ![]()
"Imagine"
Yeah, even if chess is 'solved' the solution would be so long nobody would be able to remember the solution. Take any issue of Chess Informant. Imagine you could memorize one game with all the analysis. Now suppose that opening happens in a game of yours do you think you would be able to win it for sure. What if the opponent deviates from theory? Will that not throw you off.
Imagine the multitude of chess players all over the world, grandmasters, masters and patzers; hustlers and children. Imagine when their life's most cherished activity has all the excitement sucked out of it by the plodding intelligence of silicon, seized with a notion that they need to get a life.
Imagine all those practitioners of semi-viable openings, holding onto their pet crutches, being told their Budapests and Albins and Blackmar-Diemars were just blueberry yoghurts and slightly smaller food portions. Imagine Kingscrusher offering to play connect-4 in exchange for food. Imagine John Bartholomew narrating the growth of a houseplant. Imagine Nakamura with no drama. Imagine journalists relieved they no longer need to pretend to be interested in chess. Imagine mighty Magnus Carlsen, standing up and ripping off his face mask to reveal his robotic interior in all its Terminator-esque horror.
Imagine!
