IMs vs IGMs

According IM Waitzkin in some annotated game of his on Chessmaster,

IMs and IGMs can go calculation very far!

And It was the legendary Kotov who prompted his fellow grandmasters not to get into complications against IMs, since they should exhibit positional supremacy in strategic positions and win!

And according a NM friend of mine, there is not a single grandmaster who is not a strategist at heart, while he can imagine that a lot of international masters are just powerful tacticians!!

it's usually less stressing to grind down a weaker opponent through positional dominance, and it'll save you energy in a tournament. that said, it's not always possible to avoid complications, specially as black.
