It CAN be distracting in some cases, but as far as I know, I don't think people play it obsessively as some play League of Legends and Genshin Impact.

I play in my school and just play it when I'm done with all of the work I need to do. I do kind of switch tabs when the teacher comes though because I don't feel like explaining why I'm not doing work. But I don't think its worth arguing with the teacher over chess. Then again I suck at chess so...
