@PlayByDay I agree 100 percent. With all of the spelling, grammar, punctuation and capitalization errors on this thread, it wouldn't hurt some of these kids to pay more attention in school. Unless this is a new thing where bad spelling is somehow "cool", but like you said it can be hard to get out of the habit once you start doing it.

I remember when I wrote a message about some computer game on a Swedish forum in early 00's and one of the first replies was from a "grammar nazi" who pointed out that the word I used wasn't correct and only used in spoken language. Since Swedish isn't my native language, I took it as a good opportunity to learn but maybe I should have been offended instead, that would have shown him...

Since you are talking about grammar and calling us out on it, I should help with your grammar too. First of all, in your first sentence, you are missing a comma after "punctuation." And, in your last sentence, you combine a dependent clause with an independent clause. However, you use a coordinating conjunction. You should've used a subordinating conjunction.

I hope that made you feel good, previous poster. When I was taught sentence structure, my teacher told me there was no comma needed before the "and", so you will have to take it up with her. I'm not sure if she is still alive though. As for the rest, I guess I stand corrected. I'm not an English professor, I just notice the basic stuff.

I have a reverse of this issue. My school has Chess.com blocked, but only while off campus. Like, if I'm connected to my school's wifi, I can open Chess.com, but when I go home, it's suddenly blocked. My school administrative staff isn't the most smart

You cant play professional chess without going to chess school. Playing fun chess league in a school the plays math games it doesnt make sense

When I went to school, the teacher pulled our hair and would dig her nail claws into our arms so hard that blood would come out in little crescent-moon shapes. And here you all are whining about computer chess. We were fighting for our lives! (If you think this is made up, trust me, it's not. This was 1973, and kids today have about as much idea of what was going on then as you do about what life was like for the dinosaurs.)
thx for taking 1 for the team dude

I agree with the teachers. This isn't fun, it's growing into a addiction for y'all. Gotta give the time for studying too.

i know but not all kids who play in school dont study

That isn't the point. Do what you are supposed to do at that time. School isn't the place to play chess. Maintaining discipline should be the first and foremost responsibility of the students.
When I was in school, discipline was OK. The gym teacher hit us with a gym shoe. The woodwork teacher hit us with a piece of wood. The head teacher hit us with a cane. Nobody got hurt and kids did learn from it. Nowadays the teachers would be charged criminally for assault with a weapon.
The bleeding hearts will say that use of force is wrong, but it was effective. I would not want to be a teacher today and have to deal with kids who know that they can't be touched.

i would agree with you for sure
Many children cross the line with teachers. i think it takes a lot of willpower to teach people who openly disrespect you
bruh i wonder how many people on ches.com are currently go to school/college
Doesn't matter. We can't spell or get grammar right anyway. Woe is us.
Does it really matter? You know what he or she is saying. This is not a formal essay, is it?
It does, especially in this thread where people question why they need to spend their time in school doing actual school work. Grammar, and language in general, is to some degree a matter of habit. If you get used to rather simplified language used on forums and in chat, well that will be your default "level". From there you will need to actively try to "code switch" to more formal language. On the other hand, if you do use a more formal or at least correct language daily, it isn't that hard to neither understand nor write in a more simplified terms.
