Sure! We can discount Petrosian also for the inept 6-2! He's wife were about to get a divorce and his cat was pregnant! He was emotional distruct.

And now I am thinking that Spassky was lacking motivation also. Two weeks before the game he refused to exercise in 145 different lines he's second had prepare for this match. Fischer was very lucky...world champion contenter.

not sure if it's already time to call anand, kramnik and topalov patzer, despite their ages  theyre still there.

I would venture to say that if BF did not win back then, then he never would have....'cuz he would've probably been past his prime.

many mens are way too emotional when it comes down to their car, even so I guess you will be shocked too if you'll find that your car is pregnant.

Since I don't trust any of what you people say, I looked it up and found it was 6.5 to 2.5. Not 6-2.

And TP was 43 yo !....get real everyone !!

Avatar of Bishop_g5

You are right! He couldn't believe that his wife was about to divorce him at his 43 and said Bobby to split equal their last game to make him feel better. Some times men acting fake. It's because we have a fault understanding of the reality ? or we don't care enough?

Anyway Bobby Fischer didn't worth his glory, he should wait to become 40 years old.

Yes, and when BF was 40 ?....Emory Tate would have been 25. And Emory just might have won him.

Another productive thread.

That's an understatement.

Clock Block & Zircon....why do we hafta be solving something all the time ? Can't we just be talking and not strive for solution after solution ?

People here have no concept of the level of play it takes to get to 2700 not to mention the real super gms at 2750 plus. They seem to think any im gm can work up to that level.

His highest FIDE rating was 2413, how did he even get the title GM?

Avatar of Bishop_g5

What this has to do with Fischer's achievement? Anish Giri is 23 y.o in the top ten of best players the last four years. He has beat every one in the elite except Vladimir Kramnik who is 43+. What that suppose to mean?

In such of comparisons everything is relative. It makes no sense to evaluate ages, performances, consistent.e.t.c. In most of this cases details makes the difference. Details that our eye can't spot or mind go through.

Just to get back on topic for a moment...  perhaps revisit one of Emory Tate's contributions to the pantheon of opening variations.  http://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-openings/the-emory-tate-variation-alekhine-defense?lc=1#last_comment

Not perfect but certainly creative.

how does Emory Tate's legacy, chess skills compare to Bobby Fischer in American history

He was nowhere as good.People liked him, because he had super aggressive style. Always something interesting going on at his table. He also had a long active career,so he's made lots of friends in the chess community.

I knew Emory Tate. I played him in Chicago in the early 90's. More recently, he taught my son at chess camp.

Great guy.

Tate's mastery isn't one that can be captured by limited systems devised by Arpad Elo. The preturnatural beauty of his chess is beyond human measurement.

agreed......and i think most people should read what you said because its accurate

fischer did not have the style that tate had

Exactly. I don't know where Lola gets her facts from. E.g. Tate more creative than Fischer?! Why? How would she know that? Another "Gut Feeling"?

I played Tate at a national championship when he was an FM. He earned the IM title in 2007. He beat me, but I had a good position as Black out of the opening.

He is a tactical monster, but not really at the same level as say, Larry Christiansen or Roman Dzindzichashvili. I'm not sure if Tate ever broke 2500 USCF.

Don't get me wrong, Tate is a creative and unique player.  But there are good reasons he never made GM.
