... Yes - I personally know of NM's who have never played one USCF game with 60+ minutes on the clock.

As you said yourself, either it's true or it's not true. If it's true and you can name someone you know of, personally or otherwise, who earned a NM title playing only fast standard chess, I'd love to learn about him or her. Nobody I have spoken to, including tournament organizers and coaches, knows of anyone who has done as you claim.

As I said, it's possible. I'd love to learn.

Again, I'm not going to waste time arguing about this with a stubborn old man. Enjoy your night. You did learn something, though: You now know that the USCF absolutely would allow someone to gain a title by playing nothing but speed chess. That you did not know but learned as a result of my posting. That's a fact and it's right here for the whole world to see. You just refuse to tell us how you feel about it.

Thank you SmyslovFan for making the time and effort to talk with these folks.  Aren't you glad you did?

So please, send us the information. Please name a single player who earned a USCF NM title playing exclusively games that with G/60 or faster time controls.

Now I remember him.

Again, maybe not exclusively, but a very high ratio IIRC.

USCF ID 13377996:
MATTHEW J O'BRIEN

Chess.com @petrosianic

Thanks. He certainly does play a lot of Active Chess time controls. But as I expected, he also plays long time control events. Another player with a similar profile is Sam Shankland. Of course, he too plays his share of long time control games.

There are plenty of players who mostly play rapid time controls. But @Coffeeand420 made an extraordinary claim, that there are masters who play exclusively G/60 and faster time controls.

I don't think so exactly. I would think that if they are that low on time, and I have thirty seconds more than my opponent, I think they would deserve to lose due to poor time management!

They didn't manage their time poorly.  They had enough time to beat you.  By definition, that means they managed their time successfully.  You aren't very smart, are you?

And they never had 2 seconds left, they had 2 seconds + 10 seconds per move.  You calculated how much time they had incorrectly; therefore, you are actually the one that is bad at time management.

I am answering the forum question, not yours, and by the way, the increment was two seconds and it seems like lucky randomizing to pull that off up a piece with multiple pieces still on the board! My opponent was only 2000 and I was 1650. Opponent was piece up and had five seconds, and I had thirty.

HolographWars

So, to sum up, I think that increment is bad, but you don't have to ban increment. People are free to play what they want.

Opponent was piece up and had enough time to win, and I had thirty.

X INCREMENT X HAS TO GO!

HolographWars

SERIOUSLY!

HolographWars

Until you are a GM, increment is terrible.

HolographWars

Not my friend. Obviously. Oh and what is your otb rating again???wink.png

HolographWars

Lol I am leaving this thread. I am in the top 100 rating lists for my age, btw. Maybe that may help!!!

"Instead of switching to no increment blitz- better post a whole FORUM about it."

HolographWars

I'm back, and that, in fact, was not a correspondence challenge. Or, you want to play with bulldog chess????????

HolographWars

HT want to play?

HolographWars

His otb rating is 980, which means you have less high level otb experience. Any old person would go to the lists http://www.uschess.org/component/option,com_top_players/Itemid,371/  That should help???

HolographWars

You should know my name by now!

HolographWars

Yes, I was 13/14. I have a very good record in daily chess after my mass forfeit.
