Inexplicable improvement to an inexplicable decline

Over the last month or two i've been playing a lot of live chess again since work has stopped me from committing to the longer games and about 4 to 6 weeks ago i noticed an improvement of about 100 points in a very short space of time, a couple of days.

Then again about 5 or 6 days ago there was another improvement of about 100 points without any explanation. It's nothing earth shatting, we're talking around 1080 to about 1280 in all that time.

I don't know why i improved but i was enjoying giving players in the 1300-1400 the run around for a short time and 1400+ players a decent game.

Then, over the last 24-48 hours i don't know what's happened to me, i can't seem to string two or three wins together and i plummeted from a 'high' of 1288 to about 1150.

If any of you decide to look at my games to help or for comedy purposes then ignore the last few against someone called yellowsomethingorother, after a peice of bad sportsman ship where he chose to inflate his ego rather th... did i say ego? i meant elo, rather than mark time after a mouse slip i acted like a bit of a kid and inflated it some more for him.

Anyway, what do you guys do when you suck so bad you want to elvis your computer monitor and drink dangerous amounts of liquor?

It's extremely frustrating.

I've gone from what i think are decent performances to not being able to spot simple threats in a few days. Earlier this week i had consecutive wins against someone rated 1398 and then 1423, they were my two best wins in live chess but now i'm losing to <1000 players.

I don't mean that to sound disrespectful so i apologise if it does but i can't not wonder how someone's performance can take such a downturn so quickly?

I hate this game sometimes, i really do.

edit: My Elo timeline graph makes amusing viewing, it's like a cliff.
