I will tell you a fact...Bobby Fischer may be the best American player ever, but he is not really any good compared with global players. Sure the yanks on here will revere him but get a life. There are sooooo many better players than him. Sure you all watched a film about him but a little over glorified. The guy was a knob.

Oh! This is so laughable! Fischer opening preparation was truly amazing and his opening repertoire was exciting and aggressive, it take guts to play aggressive opening repertoire and not skate by with dull and timid like Carlsen. Carlsen is lucky Fischer was not  born at the same time, it would be Fischer the world champion not Carlsen. Fischer beat and drawinggreat players like Petrosian, Tal ,Geller, Keres, Larsen, Korchnoi, Stein and Spassky and many more strong GMs; Bobby did it with aggressive opening and did not wimp out like Carlsen who like to play safe and dull.  If Carlsen was born during Fischer time he would never be world champion, he could beat a player like Petrosian, Geller, Keres, Korchnoi, Tal and Spassky, especially Petrosian.  Playing against Petrosian you could not play passive like Carlsen, Petrosian will put enough pressure and slowly advance his plan, his plans and maneuver was so subtle and all the sudden he is winning, it take a Fischer or Spassky to beat Petrosian, not a Carldsen type.

He once said

"The Russians don't even like chess. To them it's a job, like a 9 to 5. You see, I'm passionate about the game. When they play a 10-game match in which they win one and draw nine, that's good chess in their book."

As many of the things Fischer said difficult to take seriously... Tal and Spassky not even liking chess? And being happy with 90% draws? Well, maybe a few decades after they won the World Championship :-)

I have always suspected that the real reason Fischer failed to defend his world title was that he wanted to go down in history as an undefeated world champion.

I actually agree with this.

its nonsense, Fischer would have played but FIDE would not acquiesce to his demands that draws should not count.  This was the entire crux of the matter for as Fischer correctly stated all that someone needs to do is get ahead and keep ahead by drawing matches.  They did acquiesce to every other of Fischer's suggestions but held out on this one.

Geller has a positive score against Fischer and whupped Bobby more times than Bobby managed to whup him. Carlsen should change his name to Maggie Carlsen what with his new hairdo and all. wink.png

Carlsen is  a hunk, and likely would have whipped Fischer on the board. I could beat Fischer right now. Of course, Fischer is dead, so I would win on time.

bobby fischer was good at chess because it is a boardgame

if it were rugby i don't think bobby would be alive today

Some people still seem to be envious of Fischer and Carlsen  ROFL.

It wasn't the draws that they didn't like, it was the first one to win 10 games thing that they wouldn't go for
