investigate "Intentional Slow Play" and Sanction

You can check a players profile and get their average time per move.  Should help give you an idea if they are slow players before you get into a game with them.

when you come across it you'll know...

10 a king can only make one of two moves; a trade is in the works - 2) i take your queen you need to take my queen back but instead i wait 3 days and another 3 days for followup move.

my thought is that the site should monitor abuse here as in other areas like aborting a live game for some reason..

many comments have been made by many people to move someone along with abuse of 100 games on wait ... at what point is someone abusing - fair play policy - again one or two users out of 250,000 should be warned in my opinion about courtesy and fair play.

Just tell your opponent that there is nothing for you to do until they make another move.

If in example 2, youre talking about 3 days per move games.  Youre opponent is taking the time allowed.  That is not playing intentionally slow.

i feel that they are if 40 other players feel the same way and comments are being made..i wouldn't start 60 & 70 games when players are waiting for you to make a move consistenly.

I use conditional moves a lot to speed up correspondance games. Stick them in when the opponent's move is forced or if he only has 1-2 possibilities which you consider valid. You will no longer have to wait three days for an obvious exchange to terminate.

Tends to freak out the opponent a lot too when I guess their moves in advance. :)

If you agreed to a game with a 3 day per move time limit, then that is what you agreed to.  While i agree with you that in an obviously won position it can be frustrating for some to have to play out a game like that, but the other player also has the right to keep playing.  And depending on the ratings the player certainly has a right to play on.

Metastable

I'm generally on the side that says "you knew what you were getting into". But I have to agree that it can be pretty annoying when it actually happens to you. I signed up for a 14-day/move tournament (yes, I know..., I know...) and the funniest thing about it is that one of my opponents *still* seems to spend half his time on vacation. It's been close to 10 weeks and we're on move 13!! What's up with that? But I don't really care... I just start another few games when I feel the need to play more.

Another time I had one guy come back and resign a game because I munched his queen; the fatal move had been played so long ago, and he went on vacation for a month or so, so long that I had completely forgotten about it. When it popped up on my list it was like an unexpected present. So it's not always bad :-)

The only argument I have with the advice to look at the other players profile is that you can't pick your opponent in a tournament - you get the luck of the draw.

Okay, you found your preference in opponents.  Play the ones who don't have a lot of games going.  If you start a game with someone who has 40-50 other games going, abort early, and explain to your opponent you prefer to play people who have fewer games going on.

For the rest of us who don't care how many games a person is playing, it's a non-issue.  As long as they play within the allotted time controls, it's irrelevant how many other games they are playing.

Maybe a change of expectations of what one move/3 days means in practice would help?  If not, then consider my suggestion about playing people with fewer games on their plate.

very nice summation; i hadn't really thought about initially or early on delving into their Current Games display...I wonder how many moves I'm allowed to make be an abort is even allowed. any idea? ... either way good followup thank you.

yep! no always applicable but i use it when I can.

flatters1

I just move on with my life and start more games.  3 days means just that to me.

damongross

I've simply politely declined to play a person again who took a long time (for me) between moves.  It is your choice.

marysson

you have no complaint.

you joined the game under the stated time rules.  now you don't believe the rules should apply.

in the future join the time games that fit your intentions.

I believe you're allowed 2 moves to abort a game without losing rating points.  I'm not sure on the exact number, but I know it's very few, so check up on your opponent early.  :)

Someone else know the exact number?

I think it's 40, Lisa.

ivandh

38.3 is the exact number.

Should we resolve the issue, Lisa?

playing a game since dec 15th ; never again ; a player should not be allowed to string along so many people from this site. this player has started 45 games and everyone wants to get to an end point not have games drag on for a month or more...i feel as if this site should investigate "Intentional Slow Play" and Sanction or warn other players about a deliberately slow player!

This site needs a minimum intelligence requirement so stupid people don't keep signing up for games with time parameters they don't like.
