"Loading ECO database"

For the past, I don't know, week or so, the label (during a game) that usually says the name of the opening that's being used has just said "Loading ECO database" for me instead. I've noticed this sometimes in the past when I've had a laggy connection - it says that then switches to "Zorkenbubber Attack, Semi-Flotzin Gambit Accepted" or whatever, but usually it's too quick to notice (at least for me).

But this is different: It just says "Loading ECO database" and stays there indefinitely.

Has something changed about this? Has anyone else noticed it? I guess it might be something on my end, like a malware blocker update or something, but I'm wondering if it might be on chess.com's end.

Still an issue for me as well. I actually think it has been a detriment to my learning because I'm unable to quickly identify openings otherwise.

I changed my browser and now seems to work. Maybe if we clear all cache on our browser might fix on our default/favorite browser.

could it be we are playing a chess engine when it does this instead of a real person?

Lol, it's still doing this in late August. Are we sure chess.com is diligently trying to fix it?

I don't know why everyone's complaining. Somtimes it also says: Custom Position! How nice
