Robson is very, very good but a new Fischer he ain't.

He isn't a GM yet

Others have Made GM younger

Fischer was US Champion at 14

Fischer was a GM at 15 and a WC Candidate

...but that's hard to match isn't it. It took a Kasparov to be so good so young.

I hope Robson keeps blasting away. Maybe he'll be an elite GM someday?

Fischer was champion of US yea but ther was only 8 people in US history that had gotten the GM title only like 4 were playing and they werent realy that good... also right now his GM ( he made it under 15 ) plus his 2570 ( January 2010 list ) very close to beging the youngest American to go pass the 2600.

He keep playing good he could be very close to fischer. Remember chess is alot harder now then it was back then. I mean alot !!!

A gm could probebly beat a world champion back then ( a strong GM)

Rating inflation accounts for a bit. Fischers 15 year old GM then is probably equivalent to being a 2600 player at 15 now.

More, I would say, as he at 15 qualified as one of the eight challengers for the world championship match--which earned him the GM title at the time.

It takes a fat rating to manage this today.

Robson came up 1/2 point short of his third leg for the GM title in the just finished Spice Cup. Had he won his last game he would have been the youngest US GM ever, according to Susan Polgar's site.

...if you'd like to follow the progress of the tournament with pics. Finegold did get his GM title.

Finegold looks like he doesnt miss many meals.

Yes, he doesn't cut such a healthy figure. They say he's jolly though.

Yeah, I can attest to that.  I have seen him many times, and even had the chance to go over a few games with him.  I have played him twice and I was just obliterated.  Granted though I was only 950 at the time.  I remember the celebration we had for him because he is the first Michigan GM.  He is very jolly though, and he will make many jokes through a game.

Don't you know how the knight moves?  (Bob Segar if you do not get the drift)

The first tournament listed for him under the USCF website is on my birthday, for a sense of irony.

And in another sense of irony, I have the same birthday as Susan Polgar.
