Youre not going to improve by just playing speed chess.
Just because you play a few opening moves does not mean you play that opening.
You are basically doing everything wrong if youre trying to improve.

Usually, 15 to 30 mins is a suitable time control for beginners to think, find, and punish big weaknesses in their opponents' position without worrying about timeout. But of course 10 minutes is perfectly fine if you have good pattern recognition and know good opening principles.
"ask if 950 in 10min Rapid is good for a 13 year old in 75 days from starting the game." ++ 950 is not good, it is a sign of frequent blunders. Always check your intended move is no blunder before you play it. That alone will get you to 1500.
"I've played about 9-10 games a day consistently (627 total)" ++ Do you analyse your lost games to learn from your mistakes?
"have been studying Evans Gambit and the Sicilian Dragon." ++ Do not study openings, it is a waste of time. General principles are enough. On the other hand: do you know how to checkmate KQ vs. K, KR vs. K, KBB vs. K, KBN vs. K, KNN vs. P? Do you know KP vs. K, KQ vs. KP, KR vs. KP, KQ vs. KR, KR vs. KN?
You are better than 65% of rapid players! Keep playing and watch your percentile number grow.
Lmao everyones telling me im bad
Well there is a lot of room for improvement! But it is all relative.
1. Set your challenge rating ranges to provide for players equal or a little better than you.
2. Evaluate/analyze your games, particularly the opening moves and try an appreciate why your early moves are inferior.
3. Study end games. If you don't know how to win with a Rook & King against a King, or 4 pawns against 3 you can't make a plan on how to get there to win.
I don't think learning checkmate patterns besides K+Q and K+R is really that useful cause honestly most games are won by resignation, timeout or opponent hung mate in 1-5. Like when was the last time you were in an endgame with only knights and/or bishops but no pawn?
You are doing well, just keep practicing 🙂
I think Im still bad but my growth rate has been good cause of how much ive been playing, so i think ill reach 1200s in like 1-2 months max
yeah
The kid has only played 75 games....cut them some slack lol. I think 950 is good for that little of games, its better then where i was. Keep it up an have fun with it !
Hi, I recently got pretty much addicted to Chess, and I wanted to ask if 950 in 10min Rapid is good for a 13 year old in 75 days from starting the game. I've played about 9-10 games a day consistently (627 total) and am really trying to get better. I've been taking the Chess.com Lessons and been watching many chess videos every day and have been studying Evans Gambit and the Sicilian Dragon. Thanks for answering in advance.
950 rating is like average rating pool in here.
It is amazing and impressive achievement for a beginner who could do it in a few months.
