is anand scared of topalov?

Anand has nothing to be scared of in Topalov.  Kramnick was a strong challenger than Topalov is and I think the result will demonstrate that.

Guys, when you created this topic Anand was already in Bulgaria. He arrived yesterday and there was a press conference.

I hope we see a great match.

I didn't start this post... your compatriot did... and it's evident you agree with him.

I don't think I'm from England...

Why doesn't Anand just let Carlsen take his place?

If somebody was scared, what good would postponing the match for 3 days actually do?

What plausible reason(s) would Topalov's camp have in refusing this reasonable and fair request?   I can think of one.... fear.

I can think of another: Honoring the tens of contratcs.

I would like to point out that both Anand and Topalov live in Spain !  Topalov is there on time and I dont understand why Anand can't be ? He was "stranded" in Frankfurt on the 16th en route to Sophia. Even if he's forced to go by car or train to Sophia, from Frankfurt, he should have been able to make it by the 18th. It seems unfair to blame Topalov/Bulgarians/FIDE for any wrong doing in this to this point......

Are European football games being postponed due to the travel problems ?

Unless you have some knowledge we don't possess, it is not reasonable to assume both were coming directly from their Spanish residences, on the same date, and without other stops to make.

Anand was among thousands of people stranded at the Frankfurt airport.  Hotels, rental cars, helicopter transports, etc. immediately became scarce commodities.  If his flight hadn't been canceled, he'd have arrived in plenty of time.

True, other events were not canceled.  Evidently they did not require getting from Frankfurt to Sofia on the given days, did they - so it is completely irrelevant, isn't it?  Not to mention that team chess events and sporting events do not entail the extreme tension surrounding and the intense concentration needed for a World Championship match.

One thing is clear:  Anand must not count on getting any considerations from the organizers or FIDE.  The fears Kramnik expressed about his agreement to play in Bulgaria are not being dispeled.

Why Anand never asked for help the organizers? They can even arrange a car from the Bulgarian embassy to drive him to Sofia. Or he could always take on cab (and don't tell me cabs are all booked up). If he wants to be in Bulgaria on time he can. If he doesn't, this is his own fault.

I just try to be objective , unlike those who have already joined the Topalov haters club. Do you have any idea what the added expense might be to the organizers to delay the start by a few days ? Who would pay the additional expenses ?  You ?  Anand ?  I guess the organizers and/or  FIDE ?  I dont know but this is something that noone seems to be considering.

I agree people seem to get anti-topolov on this issue when I dont see the necessary connection with topolov.

but i wouldnt be suprised if there have been reschedulings of all sorts of thing in europe, even football games. Dont know if they have or not, havent looked it up or anything, but seems reasonable...

whatever additional expense fide may have it should be something that they  knew was within the realm of possibility a long time ago...In fact I would assume FIDE should make money off of WC matches, not lose it..if Anand simply refuses to play they would certainly lose a lot of money, eh?

If Anand refuses to play noone will lose more than him. Besides the cool million or so he would lose he would also forfeit the title to Topalov. I do NOT think Anand is even thinking of refusing to play as an option.

its been done before :P

Just sayin'

I dont think so..... when has a player arrived to play a WC match and then refused to play it ?  If you are referring to Fischer's refusal to play , he refused from the beginning, because his conditions werent accepted. There were no signed contracts, with all arrangements made, both players present and then one refusing to play.... is there ?

What were you referring to when you said " its been done before" ?
