Of course, it is chess. In bullet chess the same rules are used as in classical, rapid and blitz. Therefore it is chess. Plain and simple. It is silly, pointless, but it is chess.
Is Bullet Actually Chess?
I'd say bullet is chess up until the last 10 seconds or so.
Then it usually becomes a different kind of game: a race against the clock, using your chess pieces in a way that maximizes your time and reduces your opponent's time the most.
Bullet doesn't have to be incrementless.
According to chess.com 's definition, 30sec|3 is still bullet.
No. I'll explain in monkey to you.
NO!! Bullet no chess. Chess is think. When fast too no think about move. Brain is too scared of losing no time. Brain no comprehend what happening. Make random move. If have a longer period like 3 min might be better. But bullet no chess. Hope that helped.
You could argue 3|0 should be made bullet anyway; for the same reason 10|0 was made rapid (it's on the edge and fits better from a website design perspective because of the number of players in each category).
But in any case, 2:59|0 is bullet.
How can 2:59|0 be brainless and not chess; but 3|0 be a reccomended time control?
No. I'll explain in monkey to you.[...]
Brain no comprehend what happening. Make random move.[...]
That describes the playing style of about 90% of all chess players regardless of time control. Judging by your rating you are certainly one of those deluded monkeys: I suppose you never played a single game of chess by your definition.
Bullet is chess if it is 2/1. Less than 1/0 is not really chess, just trying to win. Then again I could be wrong…
It depends if you do or don’t consider it chess or not. I believe it does because it still uses the same principles and rules as orthodox chess and still uses time just like most games. Some others may disagree with my point because of the what the player may experience after the game. Basically, what I mean of this is that after playing chess, your body will still be in this ‘bullet mode’ where it will rush all your moves because your body is still into that bullet game. Because of this ‘bullet mode’, when you’re playing a game, such as rapid, you will rush a good portion of your moves. I still think this can make some games more fun because the lower time span could help you calculate faster. What I’m trying to imply is that if you were in a normal chess class, you would have as much time as you need to calculate in a position, but if it were a few seconds to calculate, you would learn to recognize these positions faster because of the rush and I personally believe chess teachers would think this would be a great method of teaching.
*Probably just not good at it* is the ultimate defensive copout for just about anything. Most people are not good at something because ummm...they don't want to be? Most serious chess students don't want to be good at bullet. The Masters only do it because they have little way to get better than they already are. They arent trying to set an example. Anyway as far as the original question heres a cute little test. Get two bullet punks going at 2/1 or whatever. About 25 moves in. Now freeze the game and take the board away! Ask them to recreate the position thier pieces were. They would jus say oh i had exactly 17.3 seconds. They be all over that. I would bet 10000 dollars neither could put the pieces back where they were! Probly not even close LMAO. That's the test of whether its bout chess or abt clock. 🤣 Im done with this thread have a nice life.
anyone above 1700 FIDE could do this with their eyes closed
GMs just play it for a laugh

According to Google: "Unless you have a really high rating and fast mind, blitz and bullet are not chess at all."
So apparently, if you are dumb and bad at chess, then it's not real chess 👍
Bullet and blitz are challenge for intuition the better player u are the better u would be in bullet
