I say that chess is 25% skill, 15% timing, 50% tactics, and 10% SMARTNESS.

finalunpurez

At least 80%. I always spot tactics in most of my games.

I like the quote (i believe it was soltis)

Its not that chess is 99% tactics is that tactics take up 99% of your time.

don't just play with intuition, don't just play with logic, don't just play with tactic, but play with all of this. don't separate logic and intuition, don't seperate intuition and tactic,as well as logic and tactic. you need to combine them, because as my experince , intuition needs logic and tactics need both intuition and logic... If your intuition says "Nb4" think it first logically if it is worthful move and after that, think for the tactics behind that worthful move. All you need to do, and also as my own motto, "If you play chess, apply all your reasoning that you can."

This is 10 percent luck, 20 percent skill, 15 percent concentrated power of will! 5 percent pleasure, 50 percent pain, and 100 percent reason to remember the name!

Sorry. I had to.

mostly tactics with some positional play thrown in...tactics are directly related to the position on the board...if you have a solid position then it is harder for your opponent to use many tactics

No one will give up their pawns and pieces for no reason. And those "REASON" you give him/her are tactics.

I think chess is 50% tactics and 50% strategy. Just sayin'.

Chess is not even 10% tactics.  In a forty move game there are only maybe 5-10 tactical shots in the whole game.  Nobody will ever tell me any opening is tactical, even the most aggressive and imposing.  Grob's attack and the flank openings have all sorts of traps, but nevertheless, nothing tactical when the opponents shrewdly sidesteps it.  Back when I just started out I had fair results (1521 USCF) I did not even yet know what a tactic is.  Chess is 9.9% tactics.

Just because every move doesn't have a WINNING tactic for either side doesn't mean that you don't need to calculate tactics on every move that isn't book.  To implement strategy you still need to calculate tactics or you're doing it wrong.
