I would like to say it is a sport.
Is Chess a game or a sport?

According to this it could be considered a sport, http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/sport
but, in my personal definition a sport requires physical activity. All sports are gmaes not all games are sports type of thing.

I feel Chess is a game , when drug testing becomes a major part of chess it will offically be a sport : )
I am under the impression that a sport is an occasion where two or more individuals take part in competition, friendly or not, to eventually determine a winner. However i would say a game purely because it isn't physical, and that if you go by the definition i heard you could argue the case for olympic cluedo!
It's a sport. Not a physical sport, but mental. Look it up; FIDE is a large sports organization. Heck, they want to get it into the Olympics!
There aren't any athletes in it for the most part, but it's not the same as any other game. No one devotes their careers to checkers, or plays Monopoly for a living, or is obsessed to the point of exhaustion with Backgammon.
Chess is also the greatest game in the world, (Biggest, most intricate, and most fun.) so it deserves the distinction of a sport!

Opinions can't answer this...its just a Plain Fact that it is either sport or game according to who ever it was that defined those words.
I don't know, in other words :)
i think it is a game.
