Just play the damn game and stop crying about it not being in the olympics. Unless you want chess steroids to be developed...

Hitchy04

It would be good if they put chess in the Olympics!

BronsteinPawn

No it wouldnt. Chess is already being driven too much by money. Image if it was in the olympics.

BronsteinPawn

If TDs wouldnt be trying to make chess another lucrative sport trash, the World Championship wouldnt have been decided by rapid!

Everything should be free! Take what you need!

Game, Science, Art, Sport - in this order. Very subjective.

I believe it is,the intensity is extreme,a most when the top players play,so i believe it is a sport.

I've always felt that any competition in which something/someone influences your own actions should be considered a sport. Not taking anything away from other types of competitive activities, but without a direct influence from your competitor, I just can't see that activity as a sport.

The reason darts, archery, and shooting can all be considered sports is that they involve fine tuning a physical action to obtain a result in the physical world.  I personally would not consider these sports, because I think that an opponents need to be able to physically challenge each other during play to hinder each others ability to obtain their strategic and tactical goals.  But, I also cannot deny that darts, archery, and shooting are competitions which involve the physical movement of objects in precise manner- which is more than can be said for Chess, in which the board is purely incidental to the sport (hence it can be played blindfolded by its best players simply stating moves to each other).  So, I recognize that I am defining the shooting sports out on my own, while admitting that they do meet the generally accepted definitions of sport.  Chess, poker, and scrabble do not meet either the general definition or my personal further specification.

The best players in the world cant play chess blinfolded and play as they would do with a board.

tiredofjapan

True, but it doesn't change my central point that chess happens in the mind, and the board is a placeholder for the activity which occurs in the only necessary pieces of equipment outside of the board and pieces- two independent minds.

BronsteinPawn

And why is thinking not considered a sport?

You need to be fit to think 8 hours straight buddy.
