Is chess a sport?

So you want to sit on your butt for 4 hours, drinking coffee and eating doughnuts,  and staring at a screen, and call that a sport? Hey! That's not a sport, it's a job description for an American cop!

But what about professional doughnut eaters that might be training for prize events. They need to exercise their jaws and develop a strong stomach. Perhaps finger strength and dexterity as well ?

If chess is a sport ...shouldn't there be drug testing ?

There is.

Would you know which drugs they are testing for?

BronsteinPawn

Cocaine, heroin, weed, all of them keep you active, weed usually helps you with sacrifices and stuff.

On topic -- Chess is an official sport in some country's. I consider it as a thinking sport.

I heard that WIM Jana Bellin, who plays in my local league was at hand for the first Anand Carlsen match. Her wiki page doesn't indicate what drugs were tested for if at all in this case...

"She is also Chairman of the FIDE Medical Commission,[6] which supervises drug testing of chess players.[7]"

I think the reason why they are calling it a sport now is for the mental association of watching sports...because the culture wants more spectators. watching a sport may sound more appealing than watching a game to some people. otherwise, I don't see the logic. a sport by definition is physical activity. it's kind of silly...for marketing I think.
