We need a definition. The one I found involved physical activity, which chess doesn't have. Where did you get yours?
Also I'm just like this right now because I've been having policy debates all over the last 3 days.
because our parents send us to sport...and we are on a computer to make sport! and we need to convince them taht we have a good health making spoert 10 hours per day!
if we consider chess as a sport so we have to consider esport too , which I don not agree with because it distort the meaning of a "sport"
during a chess final in 1990 somethink like that, the final contest between kasparov/karpov both players had been weighteed. they lost 2-3 kg in 5 hour of one game. after that the hidratation was permited during games due to intense efort.
PS: remember- this was at high level of thinking..not our bullet - thinking level!
Yes, chess can be considered a sport, even though it does not involve heavy physical activity like other sports. Chess falls under the category of sports because it involves strategic skills, thinking, and competition between individuals. Here are some reasons why chess is considered a sport:
Competition and Strategy: Chess involves intense competition between players, where they use strategies to win the game.
Mental Skills: Playing chess requires strategic thinking, analysis, and quick decision-making skills. Health Benefits: Chess can improve brain function, enhance memory, and help in stress management, which are health benefits that can also be obtained from sports.
Official Sport: Chess has been recognized as an official sport by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and has been part of the 2006 and 2010 Asian Games. Although chess does not involve physical activity like running or swimming, it still provides the same benefits as other sports, especially in terms of mental development and strategic skills.
