I think that having a gf is a good thing to have, but only if it's the right person. I've dated a few girls before that ended up cheating on me, and it's not nice when you find out. But when you do meet the right girl, then having her as your gf is not only better than Chess - it's better than most things.
But it's rare to meet the right girl, and a lot of people rush into relationships because of loneliness, or because they think society expects them to be in a relationship. So I'd say that most of the time, Chess is better. But some of the time, having a gf is better. It really does depend on how well you two get along.

Same here. But most Chess players are guys, so you'll probably face a lot of competition if you meet a girl like that.
Another consideration is meeting a girl who isn't into Chess, and getting her interested in Chess. That probably wouldn't work though. Most girls just don't seem to be interested in Chess at all.

chess is better then a (insert foul language here), It's something that keeps your brain active and if people have plans others should respect them. however if you are going to go alone probably not the best idea to turn down a date. Still her reaction was not needed and it's best to avoid people like that.
Edit: if you find a girl that actually cares about you and vice versa you can take off chess and keep it as a hobby
