Is chess good for the mind or does it lead to insanity?

No.  The aliens that bestowed the game upon us intended it as a gift.  Not to cause chaos, but rather to develop our minds so that our species could develop at a more accelerated rate.

I'm referring to ancient aliens.

I think that anything in excess may take you to insanity. We shouldn`t forget that this is only a game, and as a game must be funny. When you start to feel that you´re not having fun, that´s the moment to leave it. As Socrates said: know yourself; and do nothing in excess.
