That depends on how good you become. Playing chess alone will lead you nowhere unless you become a master-level player. You'll have to get a job otherwise.

If you become an IM or something, then it would be up to you to decide whether pursuing a career in chess is the right choice or not.

You have a tough ride ahead. But I encourage you to give chess your best while also concentrating on your studies. Maybe one day you'll be a famous GM! If not, at least you'll have a degree to live with.

I wish you the best of luck for you future Varun!

I would say very safe. You can even get a job, schools are for fools.

AimfulAstronaut

saint are you sure? Or just joking?

SaintGermain32105

Well, some places are in a desperate need for a hero. No, I'm not joking. Many people are jobless, and it's always nice to have a brand.

I say like complete your 10th which is pretty important in India and then devote 5 years to chess if you suceed well and good or else you can yet do a degree

AimfulAstronaut

I love these postive comments :))))) And i will complete my 12th before doing other things....

Governments and Corporations employ chess players in sports quota, but for being eligible, you need to be a GM/IM. Members/ ex-members of national squad are given fatter pay.

are there chess hustlers in india?

AimfulAstronaut

whatdya mean bunicula?

I think it can be fine to become chess IM, and at the same time take  a bachelor in teaching. From that position there can be several roads to an income. Chessteacher is one, and schoolteacher another. When getting your IM title people will assume that you are intelligent, which can give more jobopportunities.
