It's just a colour. There is no reason to compare it with skin tones, which is totally unrelated to the game.

To be fair, casual racism was much more common back then. Most people were uneducated and lived their whole lives secluded in one area. It's just that the word "racist" wasn't invented yet.

Chess was developed something like 1000 years ago, and additionally, I think there is fair reason to question why *white* goes first and *blac* goes second. Whether you believe that's a coincidence or intentionally is up to you.

Regardless, it dosen't matter, because in the modern day, people don't really think or care about the colors anyway, so it has more or less transposed and matters less.
