The world cup is only 1 of the 4 ways to get into the candidates. Out of the 8 that play in the candidates 3 are qualified from the world cup going on now. 1 spot is from the loser of the title match. 1 spot is from the highest average rating for a full year (gotta play at least 30 or 26 games or so during that year). 2 spots from the grand Swiss tournament. 1 spot for a player with the most points from a series of tournaments or something like that, they've changed something regarding that this upcoming candidates so it's a bit confusing. But it all seems fair. I'm glad they seem to have gotten rid of the stupid wild card crap.

wrong

thats how you get players to do a ding liren

now you need 4 qualifying tournaments from the fide circuit, all classical

). 2 spots from the grand Swiss tournament. 1 spot for a player with the most points from a series of tournaments or something like that,

the fide circuit, and the points are based on the average rating of top 8 rated players (so the stronger the tournament, more points for getting a position and you only get points for top halfing)

they've changed something regarding that this upcoming candidates so it's a bit confusing. But it all seems fair. I'm glad they seem to have gotten rid of the stupid wild card crap.

and yet we have a sub 2700!
