Kirsan Ilyumzhinov is on the US sanctions list for business dealings that have absolutely nothing to do with FIDE. Also, as of today, he has stepped down from his position with FIDE.
Kirsan Ilyumzhinov Head of the FIDE was put on the US sanctions list for providing support to the Syrian government. US Citizens are prohibited from having any contact with him or they are subject to arrest.
Looks like the FIDE is being used by terrorists and there should not be any FIDe events allowed in the United States.
