Nope! I have no issues beating friends as i would anyone. I always play to win unless its unrated. Its just a game so shouldn't ruin a good friendship as long as ur not a poor winner about it....
Is it a big problem for you to play to Win VS your friends?

Actually, I lost a friend and client for my massage therapy practice.
He is a millionare, and living at Beverly Hills...
I won a few games on row! ... and he never call me back!
Greg

No, I dont even let my girlfriend win. Last year I played my little kid cousin and destroyed him...
...I'm a wee bit competitive maybe.

unfortunately you beat him, you could have had lots of money if you just weren't so good at chess...

If he had about 20 International Businesses, it is not mean, that he is a real good Chess Player...
Once upon a Time Steinitz played a game with a well known Banker.
It was time, when there isn't a Time Clocks...
When Steinitz think too long, the Banker loudly rush him to play!
When the Banker fall to think too long, Steinitz rush him!
The Banker shoot on him: " I am well known Banker on the Europe!"
Steinitz calm replied: "In Chess I am the well known Banker!"

if its a friend from online I play to win and just give up at the end and let them have the points, or I play some ridiculous opening to give them points and its fun (bongcloud for example :D). In real life depends on the person and if I think they can handle a loss or not.......

it is disrespectful to hold back. If your friend is a noob to chess, then teach him the knowledge of the game, but dont hold back.

Yeah, I never hold back against my friends. I am teaching one of my friends right now how to play. He used to tell me to take it easy on him until I explained that unless I played at my full abililty from the start it would take him alot longer to get up to par with me. Since I am teaching him though,I always offer him advice like "remember scan the board for forks, pins, and skewers","make sure to always be aware of pawn chains, yours and your opponents, check for weakness etc." Also when I make a move, I will often explain my reasons for making it. Going into detail telling him"the reason i moved my bishop to c4 is because it pins blacks pawn at f7 and forks blacks knight and rook." Right now I am teaching him about effective play based on pawn structure & the art of exchanging pieces, but since he has only been learning for a few months I think I have my work cut out for me.(He often wants to move ahead before he is completely ready.) *sigh* impatience!:)

no. I'm playing with my friends for fun. I's not upset if my friends beats me. I'm playing for win but I lose I won't upset.

I think that he was not your friend.

For me it's can be a fun and problem to playing VS my friends!
They offen try to take moves back, still my pawns from a board, distract my attention by chat, smoke on me, offer me unexpected draw, treat me, kick my legs under the OTB board, name my mother, promise to fire me, smash the pieces from a board, drink during a game, use cell phone...

i want to beat my friends, and beat them good. i try even harder. who cares about some guy you wont ever see! ..........unless they beat you, then they are not even good friends anyway.

it took me 10 years of playing just above my best friend's level to bring him up to where I was playing. Now,because I held back so I could teach, he is a better player than I.

.... and all of this occurs where? your living room? or some "rough-house" drinking hole down by the docks, populated by Russian sailors and dissidents?
