Is it bad form to force a draw through repeated moves...

Ah, now it makes more sense.

Google translates that as this:

Of privetiki ''' I " russskiy " I " beat " all " outright " my " king " of zdelan ''' from " steel

Can anyone give an accurate translation? Google is just spitting out gibberish.

Hi, I am a Russian (or Russian) and I (can) beat everyone outright (or on the spot). My King is made of steel.

thanks

Mr. Chess, the point raised is a very valid one.

        No, it is not.

@camberfoil & bobbyDK

I reckon it is a typical problem Google has with Slavic languages. The last word (стали) has got two meanings. It can be a form of "become" (plural, past tense as in we became) or of steel (genitive case). The nominative case is сталь (stal) and means steel. I bet you have heard of Stalin who used this revolutionary name for it is supposed to mean "man of steel".

Benzodiazepine

It can be quite poor sport but if the opponent is a jackass then by all means go for it.

Melchert

The "form" is not repeated moves, but overall position occured three times.

Remember some time back having lost my queen in a dubious tactic, I went for threefold repeatition and my opponent went on a verbal tirade. I just couldn't stop laughing and since it was onlune, the guys in my midst were wondering what was so funny. ofcourse I could I couldn't divulge to non chessers

You could have just told them that a lunatic is ranting online. The chess stuff isn't the funny part.

iberville

The same position three times with the same player to move is a draw by repetition. But (correct me if I am wrong) I don't think twice a position with W to move and then again the same position with B to move is a three fold repetition. No need to get from first to second by the same sequence of moves as from second to third; but thats usualy what happens. So if same position on move 40, then on move 44 and then on move 69. Draw.

True. If your only available tactic is to try and work for a draw through repition, you should just resign.  I made a thread about this topic and it received over 400 posts.

Oh, so now we're comparing who has the thread with the most posts?

In that case, 400 is like nothing. Behold:

here's the scenario of what you described tackleberry:

your opponent's expert lasso skills threw a noose around your neck, and then with his brilliance got his hounds to chase you up the tree...now he's waiting for you to do him a favor and jump off the tree with the noose around your neck...

and BRILLIANTLY you just removed the noose from your neck and sat there watching him watching you watching him watching you....

chess is a match of wits....and I'd say you outwitted your opponent

Oh dear, not you again!

If you look at the rules of the $MM'aire tournament in Las Vegas ?....then that may help answer your ?.

It is up to each player to decide what he does or does not do in playing chess online.  If you feel that it is dishonorable, then don't do it.  If you feel others will be offended, then don't do it either.  It is up to you and your personal value system.

I show mercy to the weak.  Therefore, when my opponents receive an undeserved "win", it does not bother me because I know exactly why he or she "won".   Great players control their own path.

There absolutely is shame in it and you're all cucks

If you can force a draw in a losing position, you should definitely do so. We all have needed to save ourselves through repetition checks once in a while.

there's also shame in checkmating... people who do it suck so much

Scarface3825

Forcing a draw when your opponents next move is check mate is unsportsmanlike and it should result in a loss for the person who initiates it.

Every game I have played that ended in a draw was because my n3xt move would have been check mate so what do they do check check check check and it's worse when I only have 1 legal move sometimes 2.

So yeah whoever starts the rep8tion should lose the game not the other person's fault they can't win
