DO NOT resign in Blitz/bullet
please resign in daily chess ATLEAST.
It's normally respectful if your allow your oppponent to give the checkmate. I mostly resign in losing position, but I sometimes play it out.
I allow forced checkmates to give my opponent some satisfaction, as well as, witness a spectacle, but in a "losing position" (not above) then I will resign.
In Blitz it is often worth playing on when you would resign in a regular game. You can try for counterplay (pushing pawns, attacking the king and so on), and hone your blitz skills (playing moves that are awkward to respond to quickly). The worst that can happen is you go down fighting. Most players over 1500 don't resign quickly at blitz.
For regular games against a good opponent - probably bow out and don't waste each other's time.
Play too awkwardly and you'll become an awkward toast in no time.
I resign when beaten. To play on in the hope of an error seems impolite and even downright offensive.
In blitz and bullet you see blunders made by very strong players, and they often play until their time is over.
Saying "impolite" ot "offensive" seem too serious words when applied to a pleasant leisure.
thats a silly sentiment triturus.
if your opponent resigns, you should take it like "You win, it'll surely be checkmate if the game goes on..."
there SHOULD be no difference.
Btw,I find it bewildering that you have played over a 1000 Blitz games and still don't know wether there is a rating difference between resigning and getting mated.
I just never paid attention to whether or not it made a difference. I just played and tried to learn as I go. I don't study chess, but I play a lot. I think that if I took more time to study the game I could probably raise my rating a lot faster.
All these comments are really helpful. Although it seems to be very subjective, Probably asking the oponent would be best.
Or you could chose not to resign, and think that "Stalemate might be possible". That's why I play the games to the end rather than resigning. Besides, it's a good endgame practice for both me and my opponents.
Exactly, there is always the possibility of a surprising stalemate, even when you are being destroyed! And maybe even trapping your opponent into perpetual checking you, thus forcing a draw. The game is over only when it is over!
If it’s a forced mate in a few moves, I prefer to play it out, otherwise in a lost position, resigning is a favour for both players
Were you trying to impress us all with what a waste of time it is to play until mate or just showing off fabulous endgame technique?

If my opponent has a beautiful mate coming I sometimes let him/her finish, so he or she can notate a complete good game.
If I am hopelessly lost, and it will take some time finish me off, I probably will resign to get more rest-time, or get more time for analyze with my opponent.
