Is it worth trying to discuss Chess on here anymore?

Kay is old, wise, insighful, and very quick at navigating the site. But I'm afraid to get him on the team we're gonna have to come up with a lot of money.                                                                       null

The main forum is not that bad, the one that really sucks is the off topic section.

Extremely retarded threads. The weirdos there do not even have any creativity, they just create the same thread over and over again.

The off-topic section is poison.

When I'm president (of chess.com) I'll ban all the "count to x before ____ posts" threads. It's the absolute height of inane garbage and anyone who participates is wasting their time more stupidly than I could've imagined.

Well said.

thegreat_patzer

well I am tempted

to be the subject of a Kaynight One-liner is practically a "tournament" victory here at the boards...

and if we ever charged a fee per word; he might ACTUALLY have the dough!

anyways we have derailed this Most important thread. the question is, why aren't serious deep profound discussions of kingcrushers ,err Chess being conducted daily.

any insightful post should be replied with a cursory and polite "thank you for your contributions"

but don't misunderstand me- we Do want talk of that!? oh yes. words upon words- even the "BEST" words. and let me tell you some guys can really write up a forum posts (Kaynight)

not like the Losers (Patzers) have in the Past....

I've always thought it kind of funny that silly threads seem to catch on and get a ton of replies while other, more serious chess discussion threads just get a few. Not always, but often

It's ridiculous. Even this insightful contribution was almost lost in the sea of Trollery that now dominates this thread as well.

Flank_Attacks

.. Speaking, of, " 'math' proofs."

Well the post that you have quoted is a clear sign of my trying.

RonaldJosephCote

It took you 100 posts to figure that out?  Slow down, this isn't a NASCAR race.  You like to create threads,  you just don't like to take responcibility for them.wink.png

Hey Joe. ..what do you think of the Ponziani ? Well Bob ..after careful reflection I think it sucks. I play the Bogo Indian nowadays. I just love to fiancheeto. Me too Joe, my Bishop in the end game becomes a monster.

Hey Joe ! I just bought a new book. How to beat Magnus . Gotta run ! Till our next chess discussion

I'm guessing that this is supposed to be some form of humour. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

I like to think that serious Chess discussion should be the exact opposite of a NASCAR race. I've always wondered what kind of person can be entertained by cars going around a circle.

RonaldJosephCote

Well then please don't take this as an insult, but your like someone who cannot see the forest when you're looking at the trees.

You're right, I'm a part of the problem if I let the trolls get to me. But I've made a fatal error in making a thread about them, now this has become a breeding ground for them.

thegreat_patzer

Breeding?  hilarious.  did you know trolls 'breed' with socks?

not too many people know that.! sock trolls (though) are pretty creepy.

if you know a sock troll, don't send one this way....

You need to reread all the posts here that factually state that your own inflated sense of self worth is the problem, not those who call attention to it. You sir, are the troll.

Off Topic = Waste

Open Discussion = Toxic

Forums = Another waste.  Unless youre willing to discuss anything not related to chess improvement.

 Thanks Vladimir, nice post.

In my experience (I've been running a couple of chess forums for 15 years) when you have massive amounts of people participating in an open forum, it's really quite difficult to control and if you do, soon someone will get his "censorship flag" waving all over the place.

The main problem with the forums at chess.com is that the forum software is like... 20 years old. Modern forum software (i.e. invisionpower, Vbulletin, Xenforo, etc.) have modern tools to prevent morons taking over the threads: Ignoring users, warning points, moderators, banning, giving permissions to lock forums, etc. etc.

Also, I think you'd be better off posting at some of the clubs here at chess: the audience is smaller, but you get to know whom you're talking to.
